Abstract

In modern parenting, child safety online is paramount as their lives become more intertwined with digital environments due to rapid technological advancements. So, a parental control application is essential to keep track of the children contemporary era. This paper proposes the development of a cross platform application which is a comprehensive endeavor aimed at creating a digital platform that ensures a safe and secure environment for users, particularly children. The application encompasses various technical components to achieve its objectives. For the frontend development, a combination of HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language), CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), and React.js is utilized, providing an intuitive and user-friendly interface for seamless navigation and interaction. On the backend side, Node.js serves as the foundation, facilitating efficient data processing and serverside logic. To optimize performance and enhance scalability, Redis is employed for caching, enabling quick access to frequently accessed data. Additionally, PostgreSQL (PostgreSQL Structured Query Language) is chosen as the database system, ensuring robust data storage, retrieval, and management capabilities. The parental control module, three key features are implemented to empower parents in monitoring and managing their children's online activities. Firstly, the post moderation feature allows users to evaluate the appropriateness of their content before sharing it on the platform, ensuring that potentially harmful or sensitive material is flagged and handled appropriately. Secondly, parents are granted the ability to create and oversee their children's accounts, giving them control over the content their children can access and the interactions they can engage in. Finally, leveraging machine learning algorithms such as logistic regression and support vector classifiers, the chat detection feature scans and analyzes text-based communication in real-time to identify and mitigate offensive or toxic language. Users found to be violating community guidelines are swiftly and automatically banned, thereby fostering a safer and more welcoming online community for all users. Through these collective efforts, the project endeavors to establish a social media ecosystem that prioritizes user safety and promotes responsible digital citizenship, ultimately fostering a positive and inclusive online experience for users of all ages.
