Abstract

In this article thermal analysis of boiler tube has been investigated using Finite volume method (FVM) tool i.e. ANSYS fluent. The governing equations i.e. "Energy equations" for the boiler tube have been solved by using ANSYS-Fluent solver 14.5. Conventional, in a boiler there are two types of tubes are there, first straight tube secondly U or bend tube. When the fluid flow through these pipes several thermal- hydrodynamic losses takes place, which lower the performance of boiler. Even some time it leads to catastrophic failure of tubes due, high temperature-pressure, corrosion, layer separation, scale formation. In this work a 2 dimensional model of boiler tubes has been made i.e. Straight-tube and U-tube using ANSYS design module. Where, comparative thermal hydrodynamic performance has been presented. It has been found that in U tube the performance of fluid is more significant as compared to straight-tube. From the above investigation it has been found that the failure of boiler tube i.e. in Straight-tube and U-tube is quite different.
