Due to the urbanization of the society the need for construction of buildings with varied configurations in both plan and elevation is becoming more important and the concept of buildings with vertical geometric irregularities is being accepted universally. The implementation of buildings with Vertical Geometric Irregularities is very challenging and analysis and design is complicated. In this study 5 models are considered for analysis out of which model 1 is a symmetric building and the rest of the four buildings are asymmetric in configuration. Building models are analysed and designed using ETABS software. Seismic analysis of the buildings is done by Linear Equivalent Analysis Method and Response Spectrum Analysis Method. The buildings with Vertical geometric Irregularities have are susceptible to failure and hence greater care is to be taken while modelling and analysis of these buildings. The criteria for construction are considered as per IS: 1893-2002. The results of symmetric building are compared with the results of asymmetric buildings. The dynamic properties of the buildings i.e. top storey displacements, inters Torey drifts, storey shears, natural time period, mode shapes and the torsional effects are found out. It is observed that the vertical buildings with symmetric configuration yield better results compared to vertical irregular configuration buildings. |
