Abstract

This paper presents a survey on how an intelligent approach can be embedded in Sliding Mode Control (SMC) to overcome the problems faced in the practical implementation of SMC. An intelligent Sliding Mode Control (ISMC) has emerged by integrating conventional SMC with Computational Intelligence Techniques like GA, PSO for optimal gain tuning, Neural Network (NN) - based control for system identification and control of closed-loop systems, and fuzzy-based SMC. This paper provides an overview of the research and applications reported in the literature.
