Power factor correction plays a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency of electrical systems by reducing reactive power and minimizing energy losses. This paper presents a MATLAB-based simulation of passive power factor correction using capacitor banks. The simulation focuses on analyzing the impact of capacitor banks on improving the power factor of an inductive load in an AC circuit. This system is modeled in MATLAB's Simulink environment, where the load is represented as a combination of resistive and inductive components. To counteract the lagging power factor caused by the inductive load, capacitor banks are introduced for compensation. The simulation evaluates key parameters, including power factor, active power, reactive power, and apparent power, both before and after correction. The results demonstrate a significant improvement in the power factor, leading to reduced line losses and enhanced system efficiency. This study highlights the effectiveness of passive power factor correction using capacitor banks and provides a practical tool for designing and optimizing power factor correction systems for real-world applications. |
