Abstract |

The anticipated proliferation of electric vehicles (EV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles necessitates rapid charging rates. Higher recharge rates result in increased power requirements that cannot be met by the electrical grid. This project details the modelling of a multiport converter-based EV charging station that is integrated with PV power generation and a battery energy storage system. In this project, the control scheme and combination of photovoltaic power generation, electric vehicle (EV) charging station, and battery energy storage (BES) provide enhanced stabilization, including power gap balancing, peak reduction and valley filling, and voltage sag compensation. Due to the matching of daily charging demand and appropriate daytime PV generation, the impact on the power grid is consequently reduced. MATLAB/Simulink Simulation results are presented to validate the benefits of the proposed multiport EV charging circuits with the PV-BES configuration in their various modes. |
