Increased frequency and intensity of earthquake fetching a need of more earthquake resistance in building. Shear walls are the best way to control deflection during earthquake. Shear walls contribute significant lateral stiffness, strength, and overall ductility and energy dissipation capacity. In this present study shear walls at different location on plan of building introduced like at outer central periphery, at core, at inner central periphery, at L shape corner building and their results in terms of story displacements, drift, base shear, natural time period is compared with respect to same building without shear wall. A well-designed system of shear wall in building frame improves seismic performance significantly. After getting best location of shear wall, different percentage of opening is provided in staggered manner. Their results will conclude that up to what percentage opening can be permitted in a shear wall. Then opening area is kept constant and aspect ratio is changed to see effect of different shapes of opening on shear wall. The design of shear wall building is carried out in accordance with concrete code IS 456-2000 and the earthquake loading is assigned as per the provisions laid by IS 1893-2002. |
