Experimental Investigation on Strengthening of Cohesive Soil Using Bagasse Ash & Montmorillonite Clay
-Puneeth K ; Jeevitha M; Prajwal A R; Santhosh P; Meghana N
Soil Stabilization is the alteration of soils to enhance their physical properties. Stabilization can increase the shear strength of a soil and control the shrink-swell properties of a soil, thus improving the load bearing capacity of a sub-grade to support pavements and foundations. Soil stabilization lessens permeability and compressibility of the soil mass in earth structures. In common soil stabilization changes physical, chemical and mechanical properties to meet the engineering principle. Soil stabilization can be achieved by in-situ stabilization or ex-situ stabilization methodology. In the present case, an investigation is done to increase the strength properties of cohesive soil using a Bagasse ash which is a solid waste and the mixture is treated with Montmorillonite as an additive and is tested for various strength parameters. -Mr. Omkar Shashikant Magdum ; Mr. Prathamesh Pramod Sawant
The effectiveness in site layout and construction designing for large-scale and sophisticated construction comes not solely affects productivity and value, it additionally controls whether or not a project is handled and completed in a very economical manner. In Asian nation site layout designing is generally a neglected side. Most construction sites that run into hassle do thus for reasons associated with social control factors instead of due to technical issues. The site-based management will create vital enhancements within the price and time savings throughout the development method while not involving a mass of further work. Now-a-days because of site insufficiency i.e. restricted site area, high price of buying, choice and site area is taken into account as vital as alternative resources. The review of literature for varied aspects of site layout is given during this paper. Read More...

-Sakshi Thakre ; Hitesh Kodwani
As India is a developing nation thus settlement of large population need Multistorey structures. Lateral forces are considered as the forces assigning over a structure in horizontal direction which causes structure instability, deflection and failure. Seismic and wind load is considered as lateral forces. ETABS is an analysis tool which helps in structure modelling and designing as per standard specifications of preferred country. A hybrid system is a combination of two or more structural materials. Steel and concrete hybridization is the most common type of hybrid system. Steel structures are very common in the world because of its short duration of construction and high strength. To improve resistance and to overcome other limitations of individual steel structure it can be combined with other materials like hybrid systems. In this study, static analysis of 3-D building frames of G+7 storeys along with timber-steel hybrid structure with wire mesh (ferroconcrete) have been carried out. ETAB software has been used for analysis purpose. Results are collected in terms of max. node displacements (resultant), max. moments, max. shear force, max. axial force, maximum storey drift. Analysis of a Steel Truss Framed Structure Considering Lateral Load using STAAD.PRO Software
-Shashank Sikariwal ; Hitesh Kodwani
Steel structures are generally use in places where long span spacing is required with stability and within time limit. These structures are stable and rigid with easy and early fixation at site. These structures are open structures where wind effect is nominal, rigidity of such structures are comparatively more than RCC structures. These structures are easy to fix and dismantle. These are casted along with bolt or rivet connection which minimizes moment. The Truss Structure consists of members/elements that takes only tension or compression and no bending moment in what so ever form. In the engineering term the Truss is defined as the two-force member, where the members are so assembled that the assemblage works as a single unit. The truss structure is generally provided when we need a large open space. In this study we are presenting linear analysis of three different type of truss arrangement i.e. Flink, Howe and King post for long span open area of dimension35m x 25m. In this study we will also discuss the variations occur due to different type of sections such as ISMB, Channel section and Angle section. For analysis purpose we will use Staad.pro. Read More...

Design and Stress Analysis of Excavator Arm and Bucket
-Harichand ; Amit Sarda
Earthmoving machines is now a part of industry and construction fields these days. Excavators are the mobile machines that are moved by means of either crawler track or rubber-tired undercarriage. Function of excavator is to dig, dump, swing and elevate material by its mechanisms. Multibody simulation in motion views facilitates system level kinematic and dynamic analysis of whole excavator, making it possible to study the reaction forces and stress variation in every component of system. Dynamic behaviour of loading conditions are required to take account the effect of stress and vibration. In multibody dynamic analysis we are concern with dynamics of multibody interconnected multiple rigid bodies. The objective is to simulate the entire working cycle which consist of digging swinging dumping and swinging back to initial position. Study of stresses developed in various components is very much important in load lifting devices, which cause seal failure and reduction of fatigue life of cylinders. In this paper, a 30-ton hydraulic excavator is used for this particular study. Final outputs desired are the reaction forces at all joints and to evaluate the stresses at all gauge location. Modal analysis of excavator arm lifting mechanism was carried out in ANSYS. Excavator arm of different composite materials can be made out like steel, aluminium, alloy, structural steel etc. Analysis by using ANSYS 14.0 the result obtained that structural steel is preferred as good material for designing of excavator arm. -Francily C Francis ; Suvitha P S
Cellular Automata (CA) is a tool used to generate byte error correcting code. CA-based byte Error Correcting Code (ECC) which overcomes the weaknesses and limitation of existing scheme. Proposed byte ECC scheme can correct errors when errors are distributed within information and check bytes or concentrated in any one of them. Cellular automata are already employed by several researchers for designing bit and byte error detecting and correcting codes. CA based VLSI design is more attractive because of its modular, regular and cascadable construction. RS codes are popularly used to detect and correct burst and as well as random errors in different communication systems and storage mediums. Simple and modular architecture of cellular automata based encoder and syndrome generator are proposed by employing the regular structure of cellular automata. Proposed design has been optimized using a parallel processing technique. In this work, a new decoding logic circuit has been introduced for error correction. Proposed encoder and syndrome generator circuits have less computation time compared to existing cellular automata based designs. All functional blocks are simulated and synthesized using FPGA based Xilinx ISE simulator. Read More...

-Saurabh J. Hadke ; Dr.S.G.Makarande; Prof.M.M.Lohe
To achieve sustainability in construction world number of substitutions materials are used. Metakaolin is widely used green pozzolanas. Metakaolin is calcinied clay (koalite). It is obtained from raw material i.e. Kaolin Clay (very fine, white). There is very little emission of carbon dioxide whiles the production of Metakaolin as compared to cement hence it is called as green pozzolanas. Today many researches are ongoing for the replacement of Portland cement, using many waste materials like fly ash and GGBS. Like Fly ash and GGBS a Metakaolin can also use as a binder with the partial replacement of cement which take some part of reaction at the time of hydration reaction. Comparative Analysis of Infilled RC Building Frame with Fixed Base and Flexible Base by Considering SSI for Seismic Load
-Harsh Rajput ; Jeetendra Kumar Yadav; Pradeep Kumar T.V.
In conventional approach of analysis and design of structure, the structural engineer consider the base of R.C. building as fixed and avoid the compressible nature of soil. Compressible nature of soil causes decrease in the overall lateral stiffness of R.C. building. This may increase the natural time periods of the structural system. Such increase in lateral natural period, considerably effect the seismic behaviour of R.C. building frame. In this study a G+7 infill masonry RC building is analysed considering effect of infill stiffness using modelling approach given by Hendry for fixed Base and flexible Base. Equivalent static analysis of these two building models is carried out to compare the performance of infill masonry building resting on Raft foundation with fixed base and flexible base by considering Soil Structure Interaction for seismic loading seismic on the basis of Story shear, Floor displacement, Story drift, Time period and Settlement of Raft. Results shows that maximum increases in story shear for flexible base infill frame models compare to fix base infill frame model, displacement for flexible base infill frame is considerably increase compare to fixed base infill frame, story drift is increasing inflexible base infill frames compare to fixed base infill frame. This study also reveals that time period and settlement of raft foundation also increases in case of building with flexible base. This study shows that considering the Soil structure interaction in dynamic analysis of RC building frame the settlement is increased. The effects of soil structure interaction on total and differential settlement is critical factor for soft soil. Read More...

Analysis of Cost Effectiveness of Parallel Thread Mechanical Coupler Instead of Splicing
-Kuldeep Yadav ; Girirajsinh Rathod; Alert Darshan
Splicing of reinforcement is the basic requirements in the steel reinforcement because off the standard length availability of the steel bars that is 12m. The commonly used method is lap splicing because of its cost effectiveness and it also consumes lesser time while fixing, making fixing handling of steel reinforcement easier. For higher dia steel reinforcement the another method which can be used is weld splicing where the lap length can be reduced but extra arrangements of welding is required. The method which can be used is the use of mechanical couplers. The mechanical coupler are proven to be cost effective in comparison to lap and weld splices. The aim of the study is to make cost comparison of the mechanical couplers and lap splicing based on the practical experiences. For carrying out this study chemical and physical tests on couplers were also performed to ensure the quality of couplers. Read More...

Effect of Adding Water Content in the Fuel on Soot Formation and Pollutant Emission in Methane Combustion by CFD Simulation
-Md. Samiullah
Owing to the major source of energy production, combustion technologies are commercially available throughout the world. However, combustions are responsible for too much atmospheric pollution which is detrimental to human health and environment. Thus concerted efforts are being made to reduce the particle emissions due to soot formation caused by incomplete combustion and acid precipitation originating mainly from Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) during combustion process at high temperature. However, with the emergence of new fuels and combustion modes, it is necessary to improve the computational models. Hence turbulent combustion needs to be optimized through better understanding to meet demands for lower emissions without sacrificing power and fuel consumption. In fact, emission reduction measures can possibly be developed by understanding the mechanism of pollutants formation during combustion process, which requires knowledge of trace species. These species are produced by finite rate chemical kinetic mechanisms that involve large numbers of elementary steps. For this purpose, the application of a 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model simulations are proven to be very effective to support the experimental investigations of turbulent combustion. In the present paper, CFD simulation of combustion has been reported in order to reduce the pollutant emission and soot formation. The Pollutant reduction is performed on well-validated comprehensive mechanism that was designed to simulate the combustion of natural gas (methane-air) constituents and production of NOx and sooth, and model is able to predict the NOx emission levels with all possible gas phase reaction mechanism such as thermal, prompt, and nitrous oxide taken into account. The reaction rates of pollutant formation in combustors are determined by both chemical kinetics and turbulence and modeled using eddy-dissipation mode. The combustion is simulated by steady-state governing equations solved using the SIMPLE algorithm and the effect of turbulence on the mean flow field was accounted for using the RNG k- turbulence model, this non-premixed type combustion is molded using ANSYS Fluent-species transport model, followed by single-step reaction mechanism and NOx model assuming conversion of the fuel to CO2, H2O, NO and NO2 etc. The reaction mechanism is validated for using constant-volume combustion chamber experiments. Further, the model is also validated for inlet diffusion and diffusion energy source. The flow parameters like velocity, temperature, and mass fraction are defined prior to the simulation. In the work presented in this thesis, the first part focused on the effect of numerical variation in mass fraction of different species during the process using line probes at different location of combustor has been studied and plotted CO2, H2O, CH4, N2, O2 and NOx emission and Soot formation accordingly. In the second part of the research, an attempt has been made by adding water content in the fuel by 5% to 30% by mole in order to predict its effects on the result for sooth and emission reduction using methane-air two steps as a mixture material followed by parametric study approach. Consequently, the optimal values were evaluated and model is able to predict the reduction in NOx emissions and sooth formations when natural gas (methane-air) is used. Read More...

An Experimental Study to Investigate the Feasibility of Marble Dust in Geo-Polymer Concrete as Fine Aggregate
-Krishna Mohan Kumar ; Pradeep Kumar T V
Geo-polymer concrete is a non-conventional material in the field of construction material, it has already solved the problem of inclusion of cement in concrete with a newer material of fly ash or GGBF slag. But taking a step further in this field the constituents of geo-polymer concrete apart from binder material like fine and coarse aggregate can be replaced by supplementary materials which can reduce environmental degradation in a low economic scale. To study the behaviour of geo-polymer concrete, having partial replacement (5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%) of fine aggregate with waste marble dust, an experimental study is carried out and the effect on flexure and compressive strength characteristics is studied. Various properties of fresh concrete like its workability, flow index etc. are also considered. For the present study all other parameters like curing temperature, and alkaline solution to solid mass ratio etc. are kept constant. The result of this present investigation indicates that the replacement of certain percentage of fine aggregate with waste marble powder attains maximum compressive and flexural strength. The optimal percentage for replacement of marble powder with fine aggregate is found out by testing of specimen for compressive strength and flexural strength .This also reduces the costs for construction of structures by using marble powder which is freely or cheaply available and more importantly use of geo-polymer concrete minimizes the consumption of cement. More over the use of marble dust reduces the excessive excavation of sand from the river bed thus reducing the environmental impact. Read More...

They are renewable, cheap, completely or partially recyclable, and biodegradable. Their availability, renewability, low density, and price as well as satisfactory mechanical properties make them an attractive ecological usage for the manufacturing of composites. The research on the present work shows that we can successfully manufactured Polypropylene based composite, which are widely used in the industrial field, especially in automotive applications, due to their excellent mechanical properties and low cost. This research is directed towards obtaining the optimal values of mechanical properties of organic polymer composite material for different objectives. Though the primary objective was to minimize the cost of the composite, simulations were also performed to obtain specific desired properties of the composite (irrespective of the composite cost). The latter simulation results are useful optimization of mechanical properties during machining of composite material using grey relational method. Read More...

-Engr. Fazal Ur Rehman Soomro ; Engr. Javed Jamshed Korai; Engr. Asif Zahoor Shaikh
The Vehicle Tracking System is world-famed technology in this modern era, which is used by vehicle owners, ambulance services, Trains etc. all over the world. In Pakistan many companies such as V-Tracking, TPL, Falcon-i etc. offers tracking system but they tracks the vehicle with difficult process and provide no direct access to the vehicle’s owner, in addition to that their cost is high starting from Rs.10000 to onwards. We have designed our project on vehicle tracking and fingerprint starts of vehicle, through which we have given direct access to the user with low price. In today’s modern world the use of smartphone is general and the popularity of GPS based application is increasing, it has become more viable or feasible for any user to track the vehicle through smartphone. We have designed a device which is used for the Vehicle Tracking System by using Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM). We focus on the vehicle tracking system by which we able to know the location of vehicle through Google map, which will ensure safety as travelling. In addition to vehicle tracking system, we have added a new feature through which we can start the vehicle ignition system through fingerprint to avoid the vehicle from robbery, snatching or theft when the vehicle are stand outside the house, hotels, parking etc. This biometric system in vehicle takes the image of owner’s finger, then convert it into the binary and stores it on the database. When the vehicle owner place its finger on fingerprint module R305 the system matches its image to that image stored in database if it is matches then vehicle’s ignition system will start. Our main purpose to develop the project is to provide direct access to the user by which one can easily start and track the vehicle from its current position to destination. Also to provide both features of tracking and fingerprint start of vehicle low prices and with very easy process by which every people can fully understand the system. Read More...

Li-Fi Communication
-Harshit Kumawat ; Raavi Kaushik; Sushma K N; Ayush Shekhar; Dr. Mannar Mannan
Current era many people are using internet to accomplish their task through wired or wireless network. As number of users get increased in wireless speed decreases proportionally. Though Wi-Fi gives us speed up to 150mbps as per IEEE 802.11n, it is still insufficient to accommodate number of users. To remedy this limitation of Wireless Fidelity, we are introducing concept of Li-Fi. Li-fi stands for light fidelity which enables to transfer data and provide internet through the visible light signals which differentiates it from other technologies. This System has regulated the speed which human eye has not be perceived its blinking. At receiver by applying photosensitive detector, transmitted data can be received. This system can be demonstrated as bidirectional VLC [Visible light Communication] system where both computers can act as transceiver. Using a processing software, Arduino software and Arduino hardware the transmission of files occurs between two computers where LED [light emitting diode] and LDR[Light dependent resister] were in the same line of sight. It is observed that the system has worked better for white LED than the red LED and IR LED. So, VLC based text and file transfer system is implemented with white LED. The operational procedure is very simple-, if the LED bulb is on, you transmit a digital 1, if it’s off you transmit a 0. The LEDs can be switched on and off very quickly, which gives nice opportunities for transmitting data. Hence all that is required is some LEDs and a controller that code data into those LEDs. All one has to do is to vary the rate at which the LED’s flicker depending upon the data we want to encode. Read More...

Analysis of Elevated Water Tank Considering Lateral Forces Using Analysis Tool Midas
-Swati Bharti ; Hitesh Kodwani
Water tanks are used to storing the water for future use like commercial and domestic and water tanks are used since orient times for the purpose of storage of water and various resources. Therefore, this project deals with the optimum working of RCC water Tank and Fluro Polymer water tanks. Elevated water tanks are one of the most significant help structures in seismic tremor inclined locales. Insignificant urban communities and furthermore in provincial territories raised water tanks frames a fundamental piece of the water gracefully conspire. These structures have enormous mass amassed at the highest point of supporting structure thus these structures are particularly helpless against level powers because of tremor. Raised water tanks that are insufficiently damage and planned have endured broad harm during past quakes. The raised water tanks must stay practical much after the quakes as water tanks are required to give water to drinking and putting out fires reason. Subsequently, it is essential to check the seriousness of these powers for a specific locale. Toward the end of the analysis, it reasons that the aggregate sum of materials utilized for the development of Fluro Polymer water tank is lesser than the development of RCC water tank. Consequently, Fluro Polymer tanks are progressively preferred choice over RCC water tank. These tanks are valuable in such zones where waterways do not stream for the entire years and water accessible just during rainstorm season through heavy rainfall. Read More...

Integrated Analysis of a Dam Structure Using Analysis Tool STAAD.PRO
-Shweta Khare ; Hitesh Kodwani
Dams are constructed to store water in large capacity for future use. Due to large storage the loads acting over the upstream side of the dam are heavy and, during earthquakes, in addition to these load a huge loads act on it because of ground motions. It may results in the failing of structure and thereby resulting in loss of life, social, economic and environmental crisis. The seismic vibration created at the time of earthquake must be minimized by proper application of engineering principles and so it is necessary to determine the behaviour of concrete gravity dam in the same basis. The dynamic analysis with Response spectrum method and time history method are the efficient ways to analyze the dam. In this paper, time history method is used to study the seismic behavior, the stability of gravity dam and considering hydrostatic pressure and soil interaction. To determine stresses induced due to medium type of soil condition with bearing capacity of 160 KN/m2. It is done by using STAAD-PRO. According to the Indian standard code of practice, comparative analysis is carried in between RCC dam and earthen dam have been analyzed on various parameters and the results obtained are compared, to determine the structural performance of concrete gravity dam. The effect of some parameters which influences the seismic performance and loading patterns are to be investigated. Read More...

Blind Watermarking Technique for Copyright Protection of Image Based on DCT, DWT, SVD, BFO and PBFO Domain
-Sonam Naidu ; Gouri Upadhyay; Rahul Chawda
Watermarking is the process of inserting predeï¬ned patterns into multimedia data in a way that the degradation of quality is minimized and remain at an imperceptible level. Many digital watermarking algorithms have been proposed in special and transform domains. The techniques in the spatial domain still have relatively low-bit capacity and are not resistant enough to lossy image compression and other image processing operations. For instance, a simple noise in the image may eliminate the watermark. On the other hand, frequency domain-based techniques can embed more bits for watermark and are more robust to attack. Some transforms such as Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) are used for watermarking in the frequency domain. In this thesis, we compare the DCT watermarking algorithms and especially the DWT watermarking algorithms based on robustness criteria. In other words, the robustness of different transform watermark algorithms is evaluated by applying different attacks. One main reason to consider the DWT watermarking algorithms is that several multimedia standards such as the JPEG2000 and MPEG-4 are based on the DWT. These new standards brought new requirements such as progressive, low bit rate transmission, and region-of-interest coding. This paper presents a digital watermarking technique which is based on DWT, DCT and SVD. DWT has excellent spatial localization, frequency spread and multi resolution characteristics. DCT & SVD based watermarking techniques offer compression. These desirable properties are used in this combined watermarking technique. Compared with DWT-DCT, DCT SVD, DWT-SVD based watermarking techniques; experimental results show that this algorithm is robust to various attacks such as JPEG compression, cropping, rotation, and noise which are checked by the invovlement of Bacterial Foraging Optimisation (BFO) and Parallel Bacterial Foraging Optimisation (PBFO). Hyper Personalization with AI based Dynamic UX
-Jithesh Sathyan ; Srikanth BR; Sanil Das; Arvind Dinakar
Current web and mobile applications are designed to follow a specific screen flow to complete an activity. The screen design is done with a workflow in mind, that satisfies a business requirement. Hence in design, a fixed set of wireframes are modelled and implemented as screens in the application. Each customer is unique and follows a pattern in using the application. The next generation user experience should be based on hyper personalization. The generic app should dynamically adapt the screen and information presented to specific user needs and changes based on user interactions by collating and processing the relevant data to perform a real time experience design. This should be done with due consideration on data privacy. This paper proposes a technique to dynamically update user experience. The dynamic update will be based on triggers for quick dynamic changes and also does intelligent learning and feedback loop, to slowly adapt experience for the specific user. This paper defines the logical architecture for the next generation dynamic user experience based on several patterns that leverage Analytics, AI and IoT technologies. Use cases are presented from enterprise and consumer context. The paper also details the interactions with enterprise systems and gives an overview on the development of features. The paper concludes with a discussion on the scope of future work, after detailing key observations from actual implementation. Read More...

Utilization of Two Different Diaphragms for Analysis of Tall Structure using Analysis Software
-Harshita Sen ; Hitesh Kodwani
When a large space within a building needs to be covered without hindrance and supports, architects often deploy waffle slabs to construct floors and ceilings. Structural designers analyse such slabs, assuming the grid work as simply supported system (all four edges) and deriving solutions based on displacement compatibility of beams or plates to arrive at an approximate solution or performing a detailed finite element analysis (FEM) of the slab beam system using any of the generalized finite element software available in the market. This is so because no analytical solution or quick computational tool exists, except for the case of slabs with all edges simply supported. In this study we are performing comparative analysis of ribbed and waffle slab to determine the most stable and distributive one in comparison. To validate the results, selected cases are compared with finite element analysis and results are compared in terms of forces, moment, displacement and drift in both direction. Read More...

Thermal Analysis of Flate Plate Collector of Active Solar Stills
-Rajeev Ranjan ; Dharamveer Singh
Solar distillation is the process of getting potable water by harnessing solar energy with the help of solar still which imitates the natural hydrological cycle with the difference that cycle is closed. Potable water is one of the basic requirements for the survival of organisms on the planet earth, However, water has been contaminated badly due to rapid industrialization, fast growth in agriculture and population all over the world. There is going to be lack of potable water in years to come if this problem is not addressed properly as reported by many researchers. In this circumstance, exploitation of the solar energy for electricity generation and distillation could be better alternative to mitigate the imminent problem of shortage of energy and potable water to a greater extent. The basin type passive and active solar stills have been investigated in the current study on the basis of energy matrices, exergoeconomic parameter, enviroeconomic parameter, productivity and various efficiencies. Its main motive is to offer better solar distillation system to turn out potable water at competitive price. Apart from the conventional solar distillation systems, various other solar distillation systems coupled with (a) N- identical partially covered photovoltaic thermal (PVT) flat plate collectors (FPC), (b) partially covered PVT compound parabolic concentrator (CPC) collectors and (c) evacuated tubular collectors (ETC) have been studied in detail. The thermal model has been developed for the proposed system. The life cycle cost analysis of various basin type solar distillation systems has been carried out by incorporating the effect of energy payback period. Four different types of weather conditions viz. [a, b, c and d] type for each month of year have been considered for the exhaustive computation of yield, energy output and exergy gain at optimum number of collectors and mass flow rate followed by computation of exergoeconomic parameter, enviroeconomic parameter, productivity and various efficiencies. Generally, exergoeconomic parameter is computed as exergy loss per unit cost for systems like mechanical, thermal etc. as reported by several researchers. However it has been proposed to be computed as the exergy gain per unit cost because of the fact that nothing has to be paid against the input (solar energy) to solar system. Also same input cannot be provided to different solar distillation systems while making comparison. The comparison of various solar distillation systems has been carried out at 0.14 m water depth, optimum number of collectors and optimum mass flow rate for the composite climate condition of Ghaziabad U.P, India. The production cost of water in ₹/kg and production cost of electricity in ₹/kWh have also been computed. The performance analysis viz. hourly productivity and various efficiencies of solar distillation systems have been carried out at optimum number of collectors and mass flow rate by incorporating the effect of water depth for two different months (June (summer) and January (winter). It has been concluded that double slope ETC active solar distillation system gives the best performance on the basis of energy matrices and production cost of water. Further double slope PVT-FPC active solar distillation system has been found better than other systems under consideration on the basis of enviroeconomic parameter and annual productivity (exergy based); however, the value of exergoeconomic parameter and energy based annual productivity is highest for double slope ETC active solar distillation system. On the basis of average daily electrical efficiency and average daily overall thermal efficiency, double slope PVT-FPC active solar distillation system gives the best performance; however, double slope PVT-CPC active solar distillation system performs best on the basis of average daily exergy efficiency, overall exergy efficiency and productivity among all active solar distillation systems under consideration. Moreover, double slope ETC active solar distillation system has been found to perform best among all active solar distillation systems under consideration on the basis of average daily thermal efficiency. At last, proposed solar distillation systems has been carried out followed by conclusions and recommendations. Read More...

A Study on Properties of Stone Mix Asphlat by Using Cellulose as Fiber and Copper Slag as Partial Replacement to Aggregates
-Merugu Harish Reddy ; Jakkana Asha Jyothi; Hari Krishna Karanam
Generally, Aggregates are used in addition with bitumen throughout the world in construction & maintenance of flexible pavements. Aggregates with uniform, close, well, or dense perform well with normal bitumen in heavily trafficked roads when designed and executed properly and also commonly used in paving industry. But it is not always possible to arrange dense aggregates available at the site positions. In such situations, bituminous mix known as stone matrix asphalt (SMA) that is basically consisting of gap graded aggregate, can be attempted. SMA (stone matrix asphalt or stone mastic asphalt) was originally developed in European and German countries as impervious or highly durable wearing surface for bridge decks. But today, it is pavement surface of choice. It consists of two parts, a coarse aggregate and a binder rich mortar. It is made by a mixture of crushed coarse and fine aggregates, stabilizer such as fibers or polymers, mineral filler, cement. In present study, an attempt has been made to study the properties of SMA mixes with cellulose fiber and Copper slag in partial replacement of stone aggregates as coarse and fine aggregate grades. This research project was done to check the usage of Copper slag in SMA mixture by conducting Marshall test in the laboratory in which stability value and flow values was examined along with other properties of mixtures. Here IRC -SP-79 specification, aggregate gradation is taken for stone matrix asphalt. Binder used is 60/70 penetration grade bitumen. Binder content is varied as 4%, 5%, 5.5%, 6%, and 7% by weight of aggregates and fiber used is optimum fiber content at 0.3% by weight of aggregate. Maximum stability value is obtained for copper slag as coarse aggregate i.e. 17.77 KN at 5.5% bitumen content when compare to stone as coarse aggregate. SMA Mix with Copper slag material shows less flow value in comparison with stone aggregate. The air voids with Copper slag shows more value than stone aggregate. Copper slag shows optimum binder content of 5.5% whereas SMA Mix with only stone aggregates gives optimum binder content of 5%. Read More...

Comparative Study of Steel and Composite Structure
-Dhiraj Kumar ; Manni sharma
Steel Concrete Composite construction has gained wide acceptance worldwide as an alternative to Steel construction. However, this system is relatively new concept for the construction industry. Reinforced concrete members are used in the framing system for most of the buildings since this is the most convenient & economic system for one storey buildings. However, for multi storeyed building this type of structure is no longer economic because of increased dead load, less stiffness, span restriction and hazardous formwork. And steel structure is also good for low load but Steel concrete composite frame system can provide an effective and economic solution to most of these problems in medium to high rise buildings. In the present work Concrete composite with RCC, Steel structure options are considered for comparative study of G+2 storey of building which is situated in earthquake zone-3 of IS 1893-2002 earth quake loading. Equivalent static method of analysis is used for modeling of Composite and Steel structures; STAAD-pro V8i Finite element software is used. In the composite structure Steel column is encased in PCC and RCC slab on steel girder are employed. The dead load and live load are considered as per IS-875(part-1&2) and wind load is considered as per IS-875(part-3). The result of this work shown that, the cost of the composite is less than the steel structure. The critical bending moment and Shear force values are more than steel structures due to decreased dead load. Composite structure is best solution for the multi storeyed Structure compared to Steel structure. Read More...
