Piston rings are the seals which are widely used in compressor for the prevention of leakage and increasing the efficiency of compressor. Due to the reciprocating motion of piston, these piston rings located in the grooves of the piston slides against cylinder wall surface, subjected to wear and gas pressure. The use of conventional materials like cast iron and steel subjected to high wear,noise and required lubrication. These materials were replace by materials which has extremely low coefficient of friction and high thermal stability and forms transfer films which reduced the further were and doesn’t requires any lubrication. Currently used filler material in industry was bronze added base material. Many researchers has done to increase the life of piston rings with fillers carbon, graphite, bronze, glass etc. This paper presents a review of wear study of composites. |
